from The Art of the Start Mar. 24th, 2005 @ 02:28 pm
I've always been an idea guy, coming up with ideas of improving things, or ideas for small businesses, etc. A coworker from awhile back made a post that he really liked this book The Art of the Start by Guy Kawasaki, so I threw down a couple bones and have been slowly digesting it.

I just hit a quote that made me really self-evaluate for a couple minutes and I thought I'd share...

"Investors are looking for people who can implement ideas, not simply come up with them. Ideas are easy. Implementation is hard - and where the money is. Quite frankly, few investors are capable of implementing an idea - that's why they're investors... but I digress..."

This book has been a really nice read, it talks a lot about how to sell your business idea whether you're working for a company (you do need to be a salesman in order to pitch projects inside a company) or starting your own. I'm about halfway thru it and it's given me a lot of insight I wish I'd had 5 years ago.

the Incredibles Mar. 21st, 2005 @ 08:23 am
If/when you buy the Incredibles DVD, be sure to check the extra features for the little short bit about Jack Jack. It's only a 2 minute segment, but it made for some great backstory.

About 5 minutes after I got to work, there was some Big Texas Thunder - and then a few minutes of rain - and then squat. So instead of a cool thunderstorm, I just have cloudy and overcast. Bah! Give me the big stuff!

Well, it is that time of year to renew the vanity domain again, and wow.... 6 years, huh? (yes, [info]theotherdave i already know that you've got 2 years on me... :) )

Domain Name: 1138.NET
Created on: 20-MAR-99
Expires on: 20-MAR-05

I had one other domain previous to this one, and if only I'd held on to it for a bit longer, I may have profited back in the domain reselling day... for look at it now... Sniffle, it used to be mine...

damn marketeers! Mar. 16th, 2005 @ 12:23 pm
Well, I went to big chain store to buy lunch stuff and saw they had the Incredibles out on DVD so damn but if that wasn't an expensive lunch!

Also, the master of subversive marketing has again bundled a DVD I'll be forced to purchase - Star Wars: Clone Wars was aired on the USA network as a bunch of short clips, and they've now done what I feared and bundled it and put it in a box and marked it with a price, so yah, that'll be another $13.88 soon departed from my dear checking account. If you have any Star Wars interest at all, I highly recommend at least renting the Clone Wars DVD as I really enjoyed the perspective they put on the Clone Soldiers (and also may indicate that I really really wanna buy Republic Commando for my lovely xbox). Man, too much commercialism. Not enough bank. :)

» PANIC - SCREAM - resolved..... ahhhhhhhh
I had the HUGEST panic that the Tivo like device we have hooked for our Satellite was full, and that it wouldn't have space to record BSG tonight, so I quickly IM'd the missus in a heightened state of alert, and was politely informed she'd already taken care of that.

Ahhhhh, what a great wife!

Now my son.... I don't quite understand how many episodes of Digimon he feels he needs to record, but it's obvious that our current Tivo does not meet our family needs.

So, the pushy bitch at work hung up her daughters girl scout order form in the kitchen, and sold about $350 worth of cookies. Yay for pushy bitchs daughter, she really worked for that fundraising, right?

So now it's delivery time for said cookies. Pushy bitch doesn't have enough time to distribute the cookies, so she has the admin for the office collecting the money and handing out the cookies.

How does that work......

Ok, last week - first half of the week was strep, so I was knocked out - then Friday my son and I each got a 24 hour bug of some sort, we both had 102 degree fevers and were miserable...

Saturday afternoon my wife went out to my car, came back in, and said, "Uh, did you know your stereo is missing?" So, called the cops and filed a police report. It's kind of neat living in a city where they take things seriously, they had someone come out and do fingerprints in the off chance that the dickless wonders screwed up and left behind some indication of who the heck they were.

By mid day Sunday I was feeling human again, the virii seem to have been vanquished, and I spent the day cleaning the garage. It doesn't look much cleaner, but a good amount of crap was thrown away.

Wheeee, go me! I start back at the gym tomorrow.

Ok, maybe this is too geeky, but it struck me as funny. Everynow and then I get these oddball guru.com matches sent to me, where there's someone who wants some work done, and it's trying to match with people who have the skills to get them done.

Here's the latest:

Harumph. In between busy cycles, I am finding myself surfing other peoples friends lists on livejournal. I obviously don't have enough friends. Heh.

Well, I sat here at work, and watched one of the managers for another department pick apart one of his leads until finally she took a demotion rather than get fired.

It looks like I'm on his list of people to spread blame to now, rather than him being held accountable for his inaction.

Ain't corporate politics fun?

My Mom bought me Halo 2 - said she got it for $30 off ebay, including shipping! What a great deal. What a great Mom!

Got a ton of other great stuff, including a super cool Elvis ornament, which I sort of want to keep in the box, but my daughter keeps pressuring me to open. We'll see.

I'm going to buy MechAssault 2 for xbox as soon as it comes out - got a gift cert from work, and that's where that little neato prize coupon is going to be redeemed - at the video game aisle, baby!

So, what with buying KOTOR, now having Halo 2, and soon to have MechAssault 2 - I should pretty much get nothing accomplished at home for the next 3-6 months!
